Principle of turbo charged engine
In fact, turbo is a kind of air compressor, which compresses air to increase air inflow of engine. In general, turbo charged engine utilizes inertia force of exhaust discharged by engine to drive turbo. The turbo drives coaxial vane wheel. Then the vane wheel compresses and feeds air transmitted by air cleaner. The air is supercharged and enters into cylinders. When revolving speed of engine increases, discharge velocity of exhaust gas also grows synchronously with revolving speed of turbo. Vane wheel compresses more air and transmits air into cylinders. More fuel is burned for pressure and density of air increasing. For this, increasing accordingly fuel quantity and regulating revolving speed of engine can increase output power of engine.

Tail gas discharged from silencer has power. If the power of tail gas is used as far as possible to impact turbine blades, more gas can be compressed into cylinders.

Discharged tail gas detected by people just has a small amount of power. Before discharging from silencer, the tail gas has quite large power. Added with a turbo, a natural aspirated engine is changed into turbo charged engine.

Advantages of turbo charged engine
Compared with natural aspirated engine, the turbo charged engine has two main advantages: firstly, turbo charged engine can provide higher power and torque even though having small displacement; secondly, turbo charged engine has better fuel consumption in theory.

However, turbo charged engine also has disadvantages. First of all, the engine has higher cost for maintenance. Compared with natural aspirated engine, the upkeep cost of turbo charged engine is more expensive. Secondly, turbo has service life. The process replacing turbo not only requires tedious procedures, but also increases economical burden to owners.

What's more, due to higher burning temperature, the service life of turbo charged engine is shorter than that of natural aspirated engine in theory.
