Sales Volume of Domestic SUV Increases Sharply

In recent years, domestic SUV sales have risen sharply in successive years, and the annual increase range is far higher than those of cars and MPV. Though domestic auto market was under depth adjustment in 2011 and 2012, SUV sales were still growing up.
 
According to the statistics of China Automobile Manufacturers Association, the sale amount domestic passenger cars was  17.9289 million units in 2013, growing by 15.71% compared with a year earlier. Among which basic passenger vehicles (cars) were sold 12 million units, rising 11.77%. Multi-purpose vehicles (MPV) were sold 1.3 million units, rising 1.6 times. Sport utility vehicles (SUV) were sold nearly 3 million units, growing by 49.41%.
 
Domestic SUV sales got an increase of nearly 50% over the previous year, and this trend still maintained in the first four months of this year. Sales volume of Sport utility vehicle (SUV) reached 1.1791 million units, rising up 36.88% compared with 2013. Continuing this trend, domestic SUV sales number is expected to reach about 3.5 million units this year. Regardless of joint venture or independent brand, car companies should launch highly competitive products for such a big a market.
 
According to the current domestic market structure, joint ventures and independent brands cover most mid-range SUV. While luxury SUV and high-end SUV are largely dominated by imported cars. According to the customs statistics, among millions of imported cars, SUV accounted for more than 55%.
 
It is analyzed that many customers define SUV as the first selection model of domestic automobile as the personalized customer demand and the expanded car consumers. It is expected that the boom of domestic SUV market will go on.
 
Benefited from the hot SUV market, lots of independent brand auto makers were survived. In recent years, the independent brand market share is declining, especially passenger cars. However, the independent brand SUV market share increases substantially. In the field of SUV, independent brands have occupied more than 40% of the market share.
 
With another batch of independent brand SUV sold in market this year, the competitiveness of independent brands will be further improved.
